Sim Local has launched a trial project at London Heathrow (LHR) aimed at reaching outbound passengers through a network of new eSIM kiosks.
After a decade of successfully providing inbound travellers with immediate, affordable smartphone connectivity, we’re expanding our focus to include outbound travellers.
So whether you're departing or arriving in Heathrow, we’ll be there with more ways to stay connected!
Where exactly are the kiosks?
This network of self-service kiosks is located across each of Heathrow's four terminals (T2, T3, T4, and T5), targeting routes to the Far East, the Americas, and the Middle East.
- Heathrow T2B (Gate 38)
- Heathrow T3 Pier 5 (Gates 31-35)
- Heathrow T4 Victor Pier (Gate 22)
- Heathrow T5 Sat C (Gate 61-62)
How does it work?
It’s easy, and you don’t need to swap out your SIM card either. Simply select your destination and select your plan. You’ll receive a QR code and guided instructions. Scan the code with your smartphone’s camera, follow the instructions, and enjoy instant connectivity when you reach your destination.
And with our unrivalled reputation for customer service, we plan to stay on brand. That’s why there’ll be representatives at each kiosk to assist and educate travellers on the benefits of eSIMs and how to quickly activate them on their smartphones or other devices.
Please note: Each self-service kiosk accepts card payment only.
Next level of growth
With around 30% of the UK's airport traffic and over 85 million passengers passing through its gates each year, Heathrow is the perfect place to test new markets.
“This trial enables us to take our strategy to the next level, targeting key outbound long-haul travel markets from Heathrow.” said Ian Rankin, Chief Commercial Officer at Sim Local. “Should the trial be successful, we hope to deploy many more kiosk locations across Heathrow and other key UK airports."
Sim Local currently operates 10 retail stores across the UK, a network of 25 vending machines, and close to 100 affiliate touchpoints in UK airports in partnership with WHSmith.
Beyond our UK network, we operate retail stores across Europe, numerous vending machines, and hundreds of affiliate touchpoints in Europe and the USA through partners like WHS International and InMotion.
Breaking into the eSIM Industry
We continue to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of modern travellers, offering more ways to stay connected on the go.
Originally a SIM card retailer, the expansion to include eSIM plans over the last few years was a natural move for one of Ireland’s fastest growing companies. Sim Local’s eSIM is available in over 100 airports and can also be downloaded from our website or through our iOS and Android apps.
