Morning
Start your day in Nice by diving straight into the heart of its charm—the Old Town, or Vieux Nice. This area is a maze of narrow streets, colorful buildings, and local markets that perfectly capture the essence of this Mediterranean gem.
8AM - Explore the Old Town
Wandering around the streets of the Old Town, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The pastel-colored buildings, the laundry hanging from wrought-iron balconies, and the scent of freshly baked bread add to the magical feeling of this place. Your first stop should be the Cours Saleya Flower Market. Even if flowers aren't your thing, this market is a feast for the senses with its vibrant displays of blooms, fruits, vegetables, and spices. Grab a quick breakfast here—a freshly baked croissant, or if you’re feeling adventurous, try a local specialty like Socca, a delicious chickpea pancake, or Pissaladière, an onion tart that’s a local favorite.
While you’re in the heart of the Old Town, check out Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate. This cathedral is an important piece of Nice's history. It’s a stunning example of Baroque architecture, and the interior is just as impressive, with beautiful frescoes and intricate details. It’s a peaceful spot to take a moment before moving onto your next stop. Almost time to move on, but don’t worry, we’ll be coming back to the Old Town this evening.
10am - Walk Around the Port of Nice
Make your way towards the Port of Nice. The walk will take you past more charming streets and eventually open up to the sight of luxurious yachts and colourful, historic buildings lining the water. The contrast between the deep blue sea and the vibrant facades is just a small part of what makes this city so photogenic. Take your time to stroll along the harbour, maybe even grab a coffee at one of the many cafés with a view of the water.
11am - Take in the Views at Castle Hill (Colline du Château)
Next, head to Castle Hill (Colline du Château), where you can either climb the stairs or take the free elevator to the top. The effort is well worth it for the panoramic views of Nice and the stunning coastline. There’s no entrance fee, and once you’re up there, you’ll have the perfect vantage point for photos. Spend some time wandering the park at the top, or just find a bench to sit on and soak in the view. It’s a peaceful break from the bustle of the city below.
Afternoon
After a morning of exploring the historic heart of Nice, it’s time to slow down and soak in the city’s coastal charm. The afternoon is all about enjoying the Mediterranean vibes that make Nice such a special place.
12.30pm - Stroll Along the Promenade des Anglais
No visit to Nice is complete without a walk along the iconic Promenade des Anglais. This famous seafront promenade stretches for miles along the coast, offering stunning views of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea on one side and the elegant architecture of Nice on the other. It’s the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, people-watch, or simply enjoy the gentle sea breeze. The promenade is lined with palm trees, and you’ll find plenty of benches where you can sit and take it all in.
1.30pm - Relax on Nice’s Famous Beaches
After your walk, it’s time to hit the beach. Nice is known for its pebbly beaches, and while they might be a little different from the sandy shores you’re used to, they have their own unique charm. The beaches are easy to access from the Promenade des Anglais, so you can just pick a spot, lay down a towel, and relax. If you’re looking for more comfort, consider renting a lounge chair at one of the private beach clubs, where you can also grab a drink or a bite to eat.
The water is usually calm and inviting, so take a dip in the Mediterranean if you’re up for it. Or, if you’d rather stay dry, just sit back and enjoy the sunshine.
