You don't need the Sim Local app or a QR code to install your eSIM. Follow this easy step-by-step guide (or watch the quick video tutorial above) to manually activate your eSIM in a couple of minutes!
Just make sure you have a stable internet connection before you start.
Step 1: Download Your Plan
Your activation codes can be found in your confirmation email (or the Sim Local app).
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Select Cellular or Mobile Data (also known as Mobile Service).
- Tap Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan / Add Data Plan).
- Select Use QR Code, then tap Enter Details Manually.
- Find your SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code in your Sim Local app or confirmation email.
- Copy and paste these details into the fields provided.
- Tap Next.
Step 2: Activate Your Plan
- A pop-up will appear telling you your eSIM is ready to activate.
- Tap Continue to proceed.
- Your screen will display Connecting to Network — this process may take a couple of minutes.
Step 3: Rename Your Plan
- You’ll be prompted to select a label for your plan.
- Your home SIM is usually labeled Primary, and your eSIM is often called Personal, Travel, or Secondary.
- Choose a custom name that suits you, like ‘Sim Local’ or the country you’re visiting.
Step 4: Select Your Default Voice Line
- Decide which line will handle calls and texts.
- To keep using your home number, select Primary.
- To use your eSIM, select your newly labeled plan.
Step 5: Set iMessage and FaceTime Preferences
- Choose your preferences for iMessage and FaceTime.
- To keep these services linked to your home number, select Primary.
Step 6: Set Mobile Data to Your eSIM
- Select your mobile data settings.
- Choose your newly labeled eSIM profile (not the one named ‘Primary’).
- Turn Allow Mobile Data Switching off
Step 7: Turn On Data Roaming
- Go to Settings.
- Select Mobile Service or Cellular.
- Under SIMs, tap your new eSIM.
- Toggle Data Roaming on at the bottom of the screen.
Your phone will now automatically connect to the local network when you arrive! With your Sim Local eSIM installed, you can now browse, chat, and stream without worrying about roaming fees, patchy WiFi, or losing a physical SIM card.
